Pushing my fitness to the extreme I walked through 39km of snow, hail and rain. It took me 14hrs to get into Hotham, spurred on by the thought of a warm bed and a chocolate bar. The very friendly staff at Asgaard Lodge drove down the hill to pick me up from the end of the track at 9pm.

Hi Andy

Glad you like the shots - thanks!

The weather was fantastic in general - mostly Sunshine with about 6 days of snow/blizzard and only a day or two of light rain. I left in early October and it was certainly still quite cool, and there were still some large snow drifts covering the main range when I arrived there in November. The Mt Howitt area and the Cross Cut Saw was definitely a highlight for me - and certainly the hardest section. It got easier (ie less constant climbing and descending)travelling north from Mt Hotham through the Bogong High Plains - which were also very spectacular.

One thing I noticed about leaving earlier in the season was that there seemed to be more water available along the track than was noted in the guide book. Having said that I still got dehydrated in a few places!

Which direction are you planning to do the walk?

Andy
Awesome photos!
How did you find the weather conditions throughout your trip? Any blizzards? Worst sections?
The mt howitt area looks spectecular. What were some of the other highlights for you?
Im currently planning my own AAWT adventure for next year, planning on leaving in early September, im getting pretty excited seeing your photos!
